The Military Diet Review

This post is suitable for you who wants to try the military diet but don't know what if feels to be in it.

Military Diet, is it hard?

Having an ideal body is indeed every woman’s wish. I have a friend who eats like a monster but has a body like a model. Well, she is really lucky and since I and many other friends and readers are not that lucky, we need to work a little (or sometimes so much) to achieve the desired body.

So I read this military diet from internet and without so much thinking, I immediately follow the rules for a month and after one full month, I really lost 4.5 kg or 10 pounds. That sounds like a happy ending, but I will share in detail how finally losing 10 pounds actually feels like. The journey is short for relatively satisfying result. 4.5 kg in just a month, who are you kidding?

Military diet in my very opinion is a very fast way to lose weight, as long as you follow the rules. This diet is very suitable for those people (man and woman) who need to lose weight fast. Besides, military diet is much cheaper than the detox diet or juice cleansing diet. The overall cost to buy the whole ingredients for three days is usually only 1/10 the three days juice cleansing package. Trust me, I know this. juice cleansing diet usually cost around 1.8 million IDR (139 USD) and sometimes even more expensive. My motivation at that time was to fit in a dress that has been made for my brother’s wedding. A month before the wedding, I went to Japan and ate like crazy (Japan is really foods heaven). My cheeks grew very chubby, and so did my tummy. So my motivation was strong, I, without any doubt, followed the military diet instructions and I was successful. So far, I have made 9 of my friends join me in this military diet by sharing the recipes and motivate each other. It is easier when done together with friends.

So, if you want to read my experience, stay on this post ‘til the end

To lose weight, we must eat approximately 1200 calories a day for at least 90 days (this is what I knew from internet). 1200 calories food are actually looks very little and cannot satisfy your hunger, but this is what it takes to lose weight. I am not the master of calories tracker, but I followed the military diet rules and everything’s fine.

What makes it hard?
After experiencing several times military diet and encourage my friends to join, I can tell you what could make the military diet hard. It's psychologies issue like:
1. You don't have the urgency to lose weight fast
2. You're not motivated
3. You're so busy working or studying or anything that needs much energy
4. You don't think that you can actually lost weight in three days.

What makes it a go?
Frequently asked questions in my soc-med:
1. Q: You lose 10 pounds in just three days?
A: Of course NO. During three days of military diet, you probably just lose 1 kg to 2 kg (best case). I lost almost 2 kg or 0.9 pounds in three days because I followed all the rules and I did light exercising. In one month, i lost 10 pounds or equals to 4.5 kg.

2. Q: Can the menus be substitute?
A: Yes there are substitution for several menus. Please refer to this link for substitution.

3. Q: Is it hungry, during three days of military diet?
A: Honestly YES. Quoting from the military diet website, "Hunger is just a feeling we’ve all grown too accustomed to satisfying"

4. Q: After three days of the military diet, what do we eat?
A: In my case, I eat healthy foods and not more than 1500 calories a day. If possible, don't eat oily or fried foods, frozen foods, rice, white bread. I usually eat two kinds of cooked vegetables and my weight remains okay until the end of the day. As stated in the website, here are the foods you can eat while off the military diet.

5. Q: After three days of military diet, will my weight bounce up?
A: I know that this is what some people think: When we lose weight fast, our weight will bounce back fast as well if we eat just a little bit more. My opinion is, as long as you keep eating clean and healthy, drink a lot of waters, exercise and sweating, you are positive to keep the new weight with you. Don't listen to discouragement that people give you, just trust yourself that if you want to lose weight, you will lose weight.

The Military Diet Plan

DAY 1:

I woke up earlier than usual to prepare my own meal. I literally follow every step and menu. I would suggest you to buy organic vegetables because I found a worm in my steamed broccoli that I washed, prepared and cooked by myself. I remember washing for three times but I don’t know how come that little creature was still there. I ended up not finishing my broccoli and only ate the sausage. Trust me, your amount of food are already so little, you don’t want to throw away even a little piece of the food. But I kinda had too, because I was disgusted.

DON’T eat or drink anything beside the menus given. It might seem hard at the day 1. Your friends might eat that heavenly delicious pancake with whipped cream and maple syrup, or sirloin steak with too yummy fatty to be forgotten. In times when I cannot get rid of delicious and fatty foods in my mind, I will:
-          keep telling myself my body goal again and again
-          close my eyes, think about that one dress I wish to rock in, and then drink a lot of water to erase those sinful thought of fatty foods
Then when I have passed a day without eating what’s not on the list, I feel so proud of myself.

Breakfast

Lunch

Dinner

Military Diet Plan Day 1 Dinner
3 ounces of any type of meat
1 cup of green beans
1/2 banana
1 small apple
1 cup of vanilla ice cream

DAY 2

For me, day 2 is very tough. Every bite of my meal was so valuable I almost cried when I had the last bite lol. I felt hungry almost all day, and it was more difficult because there were a lot of works to do. I enjoyed every bit of my snacks, like that saltine crackers, yogurt, banana. I love them all and how fast they left me without making me really full. But at least I got something to eat in the middle of my hunger, or maybe hunger games will start.

I slept early on day 2 because I don’t want to eat anything that will ruin my diet.

Breakfast

military-diet-day-two-breakfast
1 egg
1 slice of toast
1/2 banana

Lunch

Military Diet Plan Day 2 Lunch
1 cup of cottage cheese
1 hard boiled egg
5 saltine crackers

Dinner

Military Diet Plan Dinner Day 2
2 hot dogs (without bun)
1 cup of broccoli
1/2 cup of carrots
1/2 banana
1/2 cup of vanilla ice cream

DAY 3

In day 3, you should have seen your tummy shrinks in quite significant way. I woke up feeling awesome because even though I was hungry as always my tummy was flatter. In this day, you will also feel even more proud that you have passed 3 days being the new you.
Now you have passed 3 days, don’t be an arrogant badass that ignores all military rules by the end of day 3 or on the next day when you no longer follow the military diet rules for a moment.

I know how happy you are to soon being released from this military academy. You will want to eat something more tasty, more salty and more meaty. But DON’T eat like you have just been survived from the Narnia war. Remember how tough the past three days are. Remember how flatter your tummy now. Remember that one portion of pork ramen will kind of ruin your flatter tummy. Believe me, the happiness from eating fatty just lasts for as long as you are eating. The guilt remains with you until God knows when.

Breakfast

Military Diet Breakfast Day 3
5 saltine crackers
1 slice of cheddar cheese
1 small apple

Lunch

Military Diet Day 3 Lunch
1 hard boiled egg (or cooked however you like)
1 slice of toast

Dinner

Military Diet Plan Day 3 Dinner
1 cup of tuna
1/2 banana
1 cup of vanilla ice cream
After 3 days of military diet, you are expected to have 4 days-off before starting to the 3 days of military diet again on the next week. So, in this 4 days, keep eating healthy and less oily foods. The website has suggestions on what to eat during 4 days off. As for me, I still ate bananas and wheat bread. I made an easy banana smoothie (blend oatmeal + banana + almond milk/low fat milk) and I feel good, very positive about myself, even though my sister did not like my smoothie. My last dinner was at 7 pm, better if you take 6 pm to allow the metabolism process to complete. And don’t forget to drink A LOT OF water.

You can stop doing the military diet when you have been satisfied with your weight. But for some cases, just like my boyfriend, he feels more comfortable eating tuna sandwich for lunch ever since, and rice has not been good for his stomach after that. For me personally, eating brown rice half the normal portion already makes me really full.

You must understand that each diet method has its own difficulties and whether you can take any diet method depends on you. Don’t go beyond your body’s capabilities. Don’t make yourself sick during the diet. My friend became sick during the military diet so she stopped in day 2. Remember, health is the most important thing to achieve.

The question now: Will I gain weight or will this have a yoyo effect?
My answer is totally from my experience. I did not have a yoyo effect and after that full month of military diet, I ate normally without thinking about 1200 calories a day. I ate pork, I ate meat but I also did exercise. I did yoga and cardio at least once a week. I still had Starbucks’ green tea latte and sometimes had an all-you-can-eat lunch with friends but my weight remains the same, thank God. But, it is important to avoid too oily foods. Keep your feet on the ground, don’t eat like mad and you will not experience yoyo effect. After the military diet month, I sometimes cooked my own lunch (and packed it for office). I used olive oil and I ate a lot of veggies. That way, I felt so positive and so happy.

I will post here what I looked like before and after. I did not take a picture when my most skin is seen but for your information only, that fuschia dress needs to be trimmed after I finished the military diet for a month, and some of my pants are too big for me already. My boyfriend said that my arms are smaller too.

BEFORE
Gosh look at that hands. like a bodyguard to someone.

AFTER
Yeay i think this looks better. This is the fuschia dress that needs to be trimmed. HAHAHA

Hands are slightly slimmer

smaller waist, happier face, healthier body, more positive life.

Good luck everyone.
Let me know you success stories!

Kaly
